Get The Layered Look

Checked Shirts & Knitwear

Tartan and checked prints have been spotted up and down the catwalks this season, therefore it’s no surprise that they lend themselves well to the layered look. For a down to earth outfit wear your checked shirt beneath a white or light coloured knit jumper. Be sure to go for a shirt that’s bigger than your jumper so that the collar can peek out through the neckline and the cuffs and hems can be seen. Finish the outfit off with some skinny pants and a faux fur hat for a classic street style look that’s going to keep you nice and warm.

Double Jumpers

When the weather’s cold nothing will keep you warmer than some soft knit jumpers. Instead of layering with a long sleeved top why not try a fine crew neck knit that sits high up on the neckline. Pair it with a thicker and looser knit jumper in a contrasting shade so that it allows your first layer to peep through. Popular winter shades that compliment each other nicely are blues and greys, whites and camel colours and burgundy and black. Keep the rest of your outfit minimal with some denims and an oversized patterned coat for the ultimate layered look.

Tights & Jeans

Tights under jeans will not only keep legs warmer, but can also add a subtle hint of style to your outfit. Seek out some baggy jeans, such as a pair of streamlined boyfriend denims. Next, roll them up to ankle height so that they reveal the cuffs and tights. It’s important to opt for tights that are in the same colour family as your boots and that are sheer as opposed to the thicker styles. Moreover, for another fun look try some denier tights with a subtle pattern such as small hearts or polka dots. Finish your look off with a loose fitted shirt and a cozy jacket.

Cardigans Under Blazers

A long fluffy cardigan that falls past the hips teamed with an oversized blazer or coat is an excellent winter combination. For a classic look pair these two layers over a cocktail dress and some opaque tights. It’s important that all the layers reach the same length and are in the same neutral colour family, which lend themselves well to the winter months. To show off the textures, push up the sleeves of your outer layer to reveal your cardigan underneath or leave it unbuttoned so that the cardi and dress can be seen.
